I plan to do a Procedural Texture 101 tutorial for absolute beginners - no maths or programming (I don't understand it myself ☺) - just tips on what I've learned so far. That said, Affinity Photo can keep up with Photoshop in most areas when. These include AI-powered tools, more Layer controls, masking options, 3D image creation and video support to name but a few.

One of the brilliant things in Affinity is that many of the filters can be 'Live'. JixiPix make a very nice watercolour plugin called Watercolour studio that works well with Affinity Photo, they also make a cut down version called Aquarella, both are paid for with Aquarella being 19.00 and Watercolour Studio 49.00, that said they also have a promo on with 50 off using the Promo code HOL50 so, Aquarella is 10. Photoshop undoubtedly has the edge over Affinity Photo with more tools, features and functionality for performing a range of advanced editing tasks. The Filter Gallery provides a preview of many of the special effects filters. For example, if the shape has a border created with the Shape tool in Photoshop, that shape will likely be rasterized in Affinity Photo. Some shapes may be rasterized, but many will be converted into a vector shape with a path. I totally get where you are coming from, but stick with Affinity, it looks like artistic filters will appear at some stage. Thats because the way Affinity Photo handles Smart Objects fundamentally differs from Photoshop.
