I can’t figure out how to climb out of the hole. I’m with this Bourbon guy, after the scene with the hallucinatory effects, I’ve fallen into a hole in the floor or something, my gas mask is all F’d up and hitting the G key doesn’t seem to change the filter as advertised, it just takes the gas mask off and I die (and hitting it again doesn’t seem to put it on). OK, my game is saved at a checkpoint that I can’t seem to progress from. Just keep doing that and you should be able to last a while. Then just run without a mask and put it on when you are about to die. What i did was put the gas mask on and take it of immediately.
